TELEVISION NEW ZEALAND, THE TIMES THEY ARE A CHANGING Mar 8, 2011 9:38 pm DURING 2010 AND IN LATE FEBRUARY 2011, I PUT IT TO A SENIOR TVNZ STAFF MEMBER, THAT HUGE CHANGES WERE EMINENT. THEY ARE WELL INTO DISCUSSION MODE WITHIN THE WALLS OF TVNZ. ![]() For some years now I have been watching the up and coming changes due Television New Zealand during 2011, and now here it is. This is a BIG story, a big event and I am sure that before too long things will start to be let out of the bag and New Zealander's will know that TVNZ is likely to be sold or split into other forms. I predicted Paul Henry Dicking off! I have made a prediction that Mark Sainsbury is soon to see different pastures or find a new line of work! I have made a prediction that Christchurch, Nelson and Wellington are soon to be affected by an event that affects people, dignitaries and businesses alike in March and April. This is alongside what Ken Ring is predicting too but I use a different set of calculations and tools to work out my predictions. So, what's up with TVNZ this year? Let's look at the Companies time-line. The biggest indicator I can see on the TVNZ chart is that the Company is going from a; "try this and try that" type entity to one where much more responsibility will be imposed; by another "owner" perhaps? In all the discussions I have had with various personnel and people who may have an insight as to TVNZ's up-and-coming activities, not one has let the cat out of the bag that something is in the wind... the wind of change for the big company of which the NZ government holds all of the 140 million shares. Does this mean that the Company may now be ready for a new owner or split and become two separate entities? Who could be the potential new drivers of the Company/s? I am not privy to such information, but one thing is for certain, the Company as it presently stands is up for a serious and big change this year and before it's 23rd birth day, it will already be wearing a new suit or suits for all to see. Here is a time line of events as I see them from the chart of the Company; Television New Zealand Limited - incorporated on November 30th 1988. 2011 JANUARY/FEBRUARY: Over the Christmas break, the Company management went into quiet discussions. New directions for the Company have been placed on the table now and the management is under scrutiny. The present owner is the NZ Government and they want to set the ball rolling for their exit. MARCH: Contracts are being discussed and many important meetings are now well under way. Serious planning and possibly secret discussions are being held; a lot of due diligence is resulting from the internal activities going on during the month. APRIL: The management of TVNZ is now being put to work and much sorting out is underway. A great deal of shedding and cutting out the deadwood' is being addressed. MAY: Although there are some months left before the final curtain falls, May brings many matters to deal with, that causes confusion and challenges for the directors and Management of the Company. There are many small details to take care of that were not initially anticipated and auditors may be involved in checking the Companies records. JUNE: During June the need arises for the Directors to enter into closed door discussions, even from its own management and senior staff. A lot of responsibility is being placed on TVNZ to manage matters that gives rise to tension. It is important that everything be done methodically and according to plan. Without plans being adhered to, things will go wrong and cause problems. JULY: This is the month when there may be observable movement in the Company. The Directors are now empowered to act on all the meetings and arrangements that have been leading up to this month. However, some matters may take longer than anticipated due to circumstances that have to be allowed to move at their own pace. Forcing matters is not the right thing to do now. AUGUST: Staff changes are taking place now. The Company, although continuing to operate, is at a turning point and financial matters to do with other parties are being addressed and managed by accountants and legal beagles, both Governmental, and from private enterprise. SEPTEMBER: Two months short of the TVNZ's birth date, the Company seems different. Has it been sold? Is it under new management and direction? All these things I have written are speculated movements but I feel quite sure the time line will be a fairly reliable one. Oh well, time will tell as the months unfold. OCTOBER, NOVEMBER and DECEMBER, well... has the Company survived the surgical separation? Who knows, but let's wait and see. THE FUTURE: As the Company is in a different mode of operation, I would suspect new Company owners and names will have been registered and only at that time will I be able to plot and plan the future of these "two" new networks. Mark Sainsbury will have gone through his period of change, Paul Henry has gone, but many of the staff will remain AND MANY WILL HAVE BEEN AXED as deadwood kills a Company and I cannot see the new owners keeping time and energy wasters. Lets wait and see... Regards, Peter Vaughan |
